The USBL regular seasons (1-12) are 162 games long, with the top 4 (8 prior to Season 13) records in each conference advancing to the playoffs. The 3 division leaders in each conference automatically advance and are sorted, by record, to determine seeds 1 through 3. Seed 4 is determined through the Wild Card Game, where the two division runner-ups with the highest records will play each other.
Each playoff series (starting in S13) has a defined length (all series were 7 games prior to S13):
- Wild Card: Single Game
- Divisional Round: Best-of-3
- Conference Round: Best-of-5
- Championship: Best-of-7
